Course Overview

Course Length Qualification
3.5 hours Level 2 Award in Basic Life for Adults and Children

This qualification has been designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities to provide basic life support for adults and children.

Basic Life Support for Adults and Children teaches learners specific first aid skills for dealing with unconscious, choking, and non-breathing casualties.

First of all, learners are introduced to the roles and responsibilities of the first aider. In addition to learning how to carry out a scene survey and casualty assessment, students are taught how to check for responsiveness, open an airway, and check for breathing.

Practical lessons include CPR, choking and the recovery position. Especially relevant is the lesson on how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) due to this now being recognised as a vital step in Basic Life Support.
